Notes: Peeled, raw or cooked leaf stalks and flower stalks used for food. The stalks were ready to use around May and June, but after a while, they became tough, dry or sticky and were no longer good to eat. The raw stalks would cause a burning like pepper if eaten in too great a quantity; it was better to eat cooked stalks.
